How We Took a Spanish Fashion Brand to #1 in Madrid and Barcelona
A premium fashion retailer went from page-four obscurity to dominating local and national SERPs across Spain's two largest cities within eleven months.
Client Overview
ModaCastellana is a Madrid-born premium fashion retailer with physical boutiques in Salamanca and Eixample, Barcelona. Despite strong brand recognition among Madrileños who walked past their storefronts on Calle Serrano, their online presence was effectively invisible. Organic traffic from Google Spain accounted for less than 8% of total revenue—a figure their board found unacceptable given the investment they had made in a custom Shopify Plus storefront and professional brand photography.
The brand had attempted Spanish SEO internally, translating their English product catalog and publishing a monthly blog in generic European Spanish. Rankings stagnated on page three and four for their most valuable category terms: “vestidos de fiesta,” “moda sostenible mujer,” and “tienda ropa premium Madrid.”
The Challenge
Three cultural and linguistic hurdles blocked progress. First, their product taxonomy used Catalan-influenced naming conventions in Barcelona-targeted pages without proper hreflang differentiation—Google treated them as duplicate content. Second, their blog content was written in a formal register that clashed with how Spanish women actually searched for fashion inspiration; queries like “outfit boda invitada” and “looks oficina verano” were completely absent from their content calendar. Third, their backlink profile consisted almost entirely of low-quality international fashion directories with zero .es domain authority.
Local SEO Madrid was particularly weak. Their Google Business Profile had inconsistent NAP data across directories, no localized landing pages for individual neighborhoods, and zero reviews strategy despite hundreds of satisfied in-store customers.
Strategy
We rebuilt ModaCastellana’s Spanish SEO foundation from the ground up over eleven months, executing across four parallel workstreams.
Keyword Research and Architecture. We mapped 2,400 fashion-related keywords across Google Spain, segmenting by intent: transactional (“comprar vestido largo”), informational (“tendencias moda otoño 2026”), and local (“boutique moda Salamanca Madrid”). Category pages were restructured to target primary keywords while long-tail variants populated filtered collection pages and blog content.
Content Localization. Rather than translating English editorial content, we built a Madrid-based content team that produced original articles aligned with Spanish fashion calendar events—Rebajas de enero, Feria de Abril styling guides, and Fallas-adjacent content for their Valencia expansion. Each piece targeted specific SERP features we had mapped: listicles for “mejores marcas moda sostenible España” and how-to guides for featured snippets on care and styling queries.
Technical SEO. We resolved hreflang conflicts between their .es primary domain and Shopify’s default URL structures, implemented Product schema with Spanish-language attributes, optimized Core Web Vitals (LCP dropped from 3.8s to 1.6s), and created XML sitemaps segmented by category and city.
Link Building with .es Authority. Our outreach secured editorial placements in Vogue España, Telva, and regional lifestyle publications including La Vanguardia’s Moda section. We also earned links from Madrid fashion schools, sustainable fashion associations, and Salamanca district business directories—each reinforcing local SEO Madrid signals.
Results
Within eleven months, ModaCastellana achieved #1 rankings for 23 primary category terms in Madrid and 18 in Barcelona. Organic traffic grew 476%, top-10 keyword count reached 187, and e-commerce conversions from organic search increased 490%. Their Salamanca boutique reported a measurable uptick in foot traffic from customers who discovered the brand through Google—closing the loop between digital posicionamiento en España and physical retail performance. Olé indeed.
